Decisions on public procurements in the total value of a combined HUF 1,809.8 billion were made in 2009, up 27.6 pct from 2008, Chairman of the Public Procurement Board József Bakonyi said at a press conference in Budapest on Friday.
The number of public procurement procedures increased 69 pct to 6,611 in 2009. It is true though that an administrative change also contributed to the dynamic growth – from April, simple procedure also had to be announced publicly and these (2707 altogether) could be incorporated in the statistics. Besides, one out of three procurements was related to EU-funded investments.
Construction investments made up almost half of public procurements compared to 34 pct in 2008. Local governments were the biggest customers with one-third of the total value, Bakonyi added.
Micro and SMEs won 74 pct of public procurements in 2009, but acquired only 39.1 pct of their total value.
