Budapest Airport has been back to normal operations since noon, April 19, though this does not mean that all scheduled fligths are able to depart or arrive as scheduled.
The first flight to leave Budapest Airport was the Travel Service flight to Hurghada (Egypt) followed by the WizzAir Gothenburg service. Malév was able to launch only four flights on April 19, to Prague, Zagreb, Warsaw and Bucharest.
Airspace closure is being lifted in Europe in various national airports, with Budapest Airport advising passengers with valid tickets to check their airlines first before starting out .
It may be days or even weeks before air traffic in Europe resumes normal service.
Hungary reopened its entire airspace from noon April 19 until midnight. Hungary's airspace was closed from 7pm on April 16 as a cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland reached the country.
